Health Department offers Tdap and Meningococcol Immunizations

Due to unforeseen scheduling difficulties, the vaccination clinics previously scheduled for July 31 and Aug 28 at the Lakes Mall have been cancelled. Families can still take advantage of the low cost/free Tdap and Meningococcal vaccinations by visiting the Immunication clinic at Public Health - Muskegon County (209 E Apple Ave), Monday - Friday between Noon until 4:30 pm. For more information, call 724-1220.

The health department will offer Tdap and Meningococcol immunications at the Lakes Mall on Saturday, July 31 and August 28 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  All children 11 to 18 years of age are eligible to receive this vaccine.  There is a $15 administration fee per shot if you are able to pay.  This vaccine is available to those children on Medicaid, those with no insurance or those who have insurance but it doesn't pay for vaccines.  It's also available for those children who have insurance, but the co-pays or deductibles are expensive and families are unable to pay.

Note: Starting this fall with the 2010-2011 school year, all 11 year-old students are required to have one dose of meningococcal (MCV4 or MPSV4) vaccine and one dose of tetanus/diphtheria/acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine. This new vaccination requirement also applies to all 11-18 year-old students who are changing school districts. These vaccines help to prevent potentially deadly outbreaks of meningitis and pertussis. Adolescents who do not have these vaccinations up-to-date may be excluded from school until vaccinated.
